Your Travel - when it comes to the costs of running their vehicle, most people just shrug their shoulders and keep on paying.

Plan your travel

New Zealanders spend on average almost eight hours a week travelling. One-third of all car journeys in New Zealand are less than two kilometres. [1.]

How much time do you spend travelling? How many trips do you make and how long are they?

Save both time and money on your everyday travel by making your own travel plan. This requires just a little thinking and forward planning about your travel needs.

When to plan your travel

Set aside a regular time each week to work out what all the essential travel needs are for you and your household for the coming week.

Know your travel choices

Now, think about your travel choices. Are there some days that you could share a ride to work or social event, or use public transport? Is there an alternative way to get to school?

Even small changes can make a difference, such as walking to school once a week, or catching the bus to work every Monday.

Try it for a few weeks, and see what difference it makes. Then think about possible other changes you can make to reduce your fuel bill and help the environment.
